Margherita Maria Sala is the First Prize winner of the Cesti International Singing Competition 2020 where she also received the Audience Award and the Special Prize from the Festival Resonanzen at the Vienna Konzerthaus. Margherita began her musical education at an early age under the guidance of her parents, both musicians. Besides early training in violin, she studied singing in the polyphonic vocal group “Famiglia Sala” composed of her family seven members. In 2017 she graduated in Choral Conducting from the Accademia Biennale di Formazione per Direttori di Coro in Bellinzona under the guidance of Marco Berrini. In 1993, for the 105th death anniversary of Jules Burgmein, she performed and recorded the world premiere of his comic opera La Secchia rapita led by Aldo Salvagno at the Auditorium Verdi in Milan (CD by Dynamic). More recently, Riccardo Muti invited Margherita Maria Sala to sing Vivaldi’s Magnificat with his Luigi Cherubini Youth Orchestra (Lourdes and Loreto). She also performed at Paris Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Essen Philharmonie and Toulouse, as well as Pasquini’s Idalma for the Innsbruck Festwochen der Alten Musik. She sang in operas by Cavalieri (Wien), Monteverdi (Ravenna), Vivaldi (Moscow, Wien and Paris). Margherita gave a recital in the Mozart Hall of the Wiener Konzerthaus and brought to life the world premiere in modern times of Giuseppe Gazzaniga’s Isola di Alcina. Future engagements include several pieces by Handel in Versailles and Barcelona, Copenhagen, for the Vienna Resonanzen Festival, the Handel Festival in Halle; Pasquini at Postdam and Vivaldi at the Innsbruck Festival.
