We promise you as many tears of joy as of sadness, and sometimes both at the same time, in this program focused on the name Mary. Mary as in the mother of Christ at the foot of the cross in Giuseppe Battista Ferrandini’s moving cantata Il pianto di Maria. But also as in the first names of two exceptional 18th-century female composers who left their mark in opera – Grimani and Agnesi. For this program, Arion welcomes the contralto Anthea Pichanick, who is sure to enrapture you, and the conductor and harpsichordist Marie van Rhijn, whose flourishing career brings her to Montreal for the first time.
Saturday: Pre-concert Talk
Take advantage of this opportunity to meet some of the artists involved in our program during a lively discussion led by our artistic director, Mathieu Lussier. This is your chance to ask questions and finally learn everything you ever wanted to know about early music and Arion's activites!
On March 7, at 6:45 pm in the lobby of Bourgie Hall, near the bar. Questions are welcome!
Sunday: Arion Academy
The concert on March 8 will open with a youth pre-concert featuring the music of J.S. Bach. Join us at 1:30 pm as five violinists from the CÉGEP Saint-Laurent music program will take turns performing pieces for solo violin by the cantor of Leipzig.
