When in the fall of 1737, Paris welcomed Telemann for an eight-month stay, the city was bustling more than anywhere else in Europe with musical activities and aesthetic rivalries. What better stimulation then for the German guest and his French hosts, for whom national styles were either clashing or mingling. This is the bountiful source tapped by Arion’s new Artistic Director Mathieu Lussier, who will conduct a program teeming with rich orchestral colours, with prominent touches of winds and the virtuosic recorder of Vincent Lauzer.
